However, you may take a part-time job, within a scope which does not affect study, with "Permission to engage in activity other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted" to be issued by the Immigration Bureau after your entry to Japan.(2)To nd employment in JapanIn case you work in Japan, you are required to obtain permission for a status of residence from the Regional Immigration Bureau as well as agreement of being hired by the company. You will nd various kinds of Status of Residence under which you can work in accordance with job category.For instance, you need to acquire such a status of residence as Specialist in Humanities/International Services and Engineers, if you intend to be engaged in trade business or engineering service. You need to acquire such a status of residence as Skilled Labor, if you intend to work as a chef in a restaurant or the like. You are required to complete a course of studies with a major in the subject related to the activity, or to gain hands-on experience for a period longer than a certain number of years, in order to obtain such a status of residence. In principle, you are unable to proceed to extend period of stay without obtaining Permission for extension of period of stay from Regional Immigration Bureau during every certain prescribed period.You will be entitled to seize an opportunity to obtain permission for permanent residence, provided that you remain lawfully in Japan for more than ten years. As to 10-year term, you will be given the privilege of shortening period of stay, to get permission for permanent residence, to 5-year term, assuming that you are officially acknowledged as highly skilled foreign professionals from the Regional Immigration Bureau. Once you get Permission for permanent residence, there is no need to take renewal procedure from then on.
